The Gaja 2001 Sperss is made by one of Italy's great wine legends, Angelo Gaja. His name is synonymous with the best Piedmont wines, which are predominantly grown in Barolo and Barbaresco.
The Gaja Winery was founded by Giovanni Gaja in 1859, and has been owned and operated by four generations of the Gaja family. Currently, the Gaja Winery owns 250 acres of vineyards in Piedmont, located in the Barbaresco district (Barbaresco and Treiso) and the Barolo district (Serralunga d'Alba and La Morra). Since its inception, the Gaja Winery has continuously evolved in ways that have always focused on meticulous care of and attention to the quality of its wines.
The Sperss is very dark and focused with incredible aromas of crushed strawberries, raspberries and flowers. The palate shows classic Serralunga terroir notes of tar, licorice, cedar, mineral, and just a hint of truffle. Huge, long silky finish, with excellent tannins! Wine Spectator rates it at 97 and the cost is a mere $200.00 for something so exquisite. We suggest you save this bottle for an elegant and special evening. Try pairing it with Andre Boceli's recent release entitled "Amore". This phenomenal selection of songs delivered by Andre's emotional, passionate and classic voice is sure to complete a memorable and sophisticated evening.
