From the Franciscan Oakville Estate of Napa Valley hails the culmination of perfect blend and union of the best lots the vineyard produced for this vintage: the Magnificat! A meritage blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and priced at about $40.00 to $50.00 a bottle, the Magnificat is so similar to Bach's masterpiece of the same name that it became a tribute! A deep cassis color is presented, opening up to effusive aromas of candied cherry, olive, and black current. The opulent and mouth-filling experience demonstrates a rich core of dark stone fruit which is accented by flavors of black cherry, cassis and hints of chocolate and bay leaf. Intense and concentrated, the rich mix of fruit is integrated perfectly on the palate with soft tannins, and whispers of sweet tobacco, leather and oak. Showing a refined balance marked with a broad and lengthy finish, this exceptional wine will encourage you to press replay!
Bach's "Magnificat", which was a reworked melody around 1728-30, is an uplifting, joyful oratorio that depicts the moment the Angel announced to Mary that she was to bear the Christ child. Bach's re-arrangement of the originally simpler melody of Magnificat has the orchestral instruments and choir weaving beautifully complicated musical arrangements, as if in a dance around the core melody. Bach's "Magnificat" poignantly conveys the regal and grand message in its intricate arrangements and lifts the listener to a mood of solemn antiquity. And the opulence of the wine mirrors Bach's piece with its rich, antique aromas and flavors.
The grand presentation of Bach's musical achievement and its wine counterpart truly warrant the name "Magnificat"!
